Green Card "Out of country" rule - Is being in Canada for a few months considered as out of the US?

I have a US green card and I spent 2 months in Canada then another 6 months (as of now) in Asia after that. Will my stay in Canada be considered as I was in US? or will this be considered as out of country. I'm asking this question since I should be out of US less than 6 months since I didn't apply for a re-entry permit.
