Why is Benjamin Franklin on the 100$ bill but was never elected as president?

Could there be some kind of cover up or secret in history that we were never told? Why is it that most of what applies to franklin applies to Benjamin Banneker? Could it have been that Banneker was hiding his identity because of being a slave?
